GREAT COMMUNITY ‘SPIRIT’ AT HALLOWEEN EVENTS

October half term saw two neighbouring Invest Local areas running some spooky events, with fun for local families and the chance for residents to have their say on their local areas.

In Phillipstown (Caerphilly), there was a pumpkin carving workshop and a Halloween disco organised by the Invest Local group and local volunteers. And while people were enjoying themselves, they were also asked to give their thoughts on what’s good about living in their area, what’s important to them and what would improve life there.

In nearby Cefn Golau (Tredegar), local volunteers held an open day at the community house, featuring art and music workshops, bulb planting, and a kids Halloween costume competition. Again, while people were socialising and having fun, they talked about what it’s like living in the area, and how they’d like to see their £1 million spent.

Zunaira Hassan is the Invest Local officer for Phillipstown and Cefn Golau. She said: “It has been so great to see so many people turn up at these events, get to know a bit more about Invest Local and have their say about the local area. Talking to people in an informal environment works really well, and we’ve had conversations about all sorts of things - from skate parks to skill sharing to safety.”
