BMX TRACK BOOST FOR CAERAU

Matthew Rowlands from Llynfi BMX tells us how funding from Invest Local has helped put the area on the map for BMXing.

Invest Local is all about building on the assets in the area, and the first plan from the group in Caerau has included plans to improve some of the existing groups and community spaces, where so much amazing community activity already goes on (you can read the full plan here).

One of the groups to benefit from the first phase of funding was Llynfi BMX. Matthew Rowlands from the club explains:

“Llynfi BMX is our local, unique (it’s the only one in South Wales), national-standard BMX racing track, where people can enjoy the thrills, spills, fun and fitness of this brilliant Olympic sport. We received Invest Local Caerau funding in order to make improvements to the track and car park to bring the facility up to standard so we could host races. Thanks to this work, we were able to host our first South West Regional BMX Series race and the Welsh Championships.

“The event and weekend was a huge success, with over 600 people coming along to race and spectate from across Wales and England. Welsh Cycling were impressed with the facility and the event and it is planned to host future large events and develop from here – this could potentially provide a boost to the local economy with more visitors coming into the area.

“It was a huge achievement for the club, and we are well placed to go from strength to strength, thanks to the brilliant work of the volunteer members of the club, volunteers from across Caerau and the wider Llynfi Valley, and funding from Invest Local.”
