AN INSPIRING VISIT TO SCOTLAND

Community members from eight of the 13 Invest Local areas travelled to Scotland recently to visit a series of community projects.

The trip was part of the Shared Learning part of the programme, where community members learn from each other and from other projects.

The visit was hosted by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust – an organisation that works in Britain’s former mining communities across England, Scotland and Wales.

The projects that we visited were Hawkhill Community Centre, Glenboig Community Centre and Neighbourhood House, and Our Place Camelon.

Emma Shepherd, Communications and Events Officer for BCT said: “We saw some fantastic examples of communities working together and using the skills and talents of the people that live there. We visited everything from youth projects to older people programmes, parks to community cafes.

“As well as learning from the projects in Scotland, the people on the trip also learnt a lot from each other – meeting people from other Invest Local areas and sharing experiences and knowledge with each other.”

Here’s a short video about the trip.
